Join the United Nations in celebrating The International Day of Peace.

The third Tuesday of September was designated by the United Nations in 1981 as the International Day of Peace. This day each year has been the traditional opening of the UN General Assembly, marked by a Minute of Silence for world peace.

Wherever you are on Tuesday, September 15, at 12:00 noon, please take a Minute of Silence to pray for peace. Visualize a world of peace and plenty enjoyed by all who share our beautiful planet. We will close the Minute of Silence together with the words, “May Peace Prevail on Earth.”

People all over the world will join in this Minute of Silence. Many will also light a candle, ring a bell and/or perform an act of kindness or peace-building in their own community, sending a wave of light and peace around the world.

Many school children will also participate. Last year, young people in 32 countries all over the world took a Minute of Silence at 12 noon in their time zone to support the United Nations in its mission of world peace. This year we expect an even greater participation.

The International Day of Peace serves as a reminder to rise above all interests and differences of any kind in our shared commitment to peace and nonviolence among all peoples and circles of life on Earth.

This event is sponsored by the World Peace Prayer Society. We thank the WPPS for their years of dedicated service to peace on Earth. To see a short video about Masahisa Goi, founder of the World Peace Prayer Society, CLICK HERE.
